[Apologetics] Incredible, riveting video

I think the point the lady in the video was making was to a person trying to justify stealing a small thing vs. a large thing. A person may tell themselves that stealing ‘a little’ or lying ‘a little’ is not a sin. She was trying to say that in Jesus’ eyes stealing is stealing, how much you stole is not the issue. She was not addressing whether it was a venial or mortal sin, she was just saying that ANY stealing was a sin.

Art,

While you make some very valid points, I am most bothered by your last statement. The Church rarely speaks any words of approval during the lifetime of someone who is allegedly receiving private messages. She often speaks vehemently if the person is proved a fake.

Yes, the mind can do some fantastic things. However, no one can make me believe that even the mind can instantaneously heal a profusely bleeding wound to the point that the skin shows no mark or scab. I am not passing any judgment on any "message" just the reality of her wounds. Remember, people tried to say Padre Pio faked his stigmata. Look where his "fake" stigmata got him.... canonized.

Healthy skepticism and discernment is always necessary but I'd rather leave the condemnation up to the Church and until then I'll judge a tree by its fruit.

Thanks, Dianne. This is very interesting.

As noted in the telecast, the Church has NOT yet decided if this is real or not. I don't think it is a hoax per se, but it is possible that this lady's mind is producing these wounds. In medical history, the mind has sometimes been able to do amazing things to the body.

For instance, the placebo effect is real. If you believe a medicine will cure you, even though a pill contains nothing of substance, in many cases, it will work.

One thing that Jesus allegedly said in the apparation may be inconsistent with Catholicism, i.e. there are no moral or venial sins--all sins are the same. That contradicts St. John's 1st Epistle 5:16-17:

"If you see your brother or sister committing what is not a mortal sin, you will ask, and God will give life to such a one—to those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin that is mortal; I do not say that you should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not mortal." (NRSV)

Thus, anything stated in an alleged apparation that is inconsistent with Scripture cannot be authentic. But perhaps this lady misquoted or misunderstood Jesus. If the apparation is real, maybe he meant that venial sins should be avoided too. But he cannot have actually said that venial sins and mortal sins are the same.

I think this lady is sincere, but she is not unique. I'd be willing to bet that, on any given day, there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of people in the world who think God has sent direct messages to them, sometimes telling them to do something, even illegal things.

I'd like to know more about this woman's background. What medical problems, including mental problems, has she had in the past, if any?

I have a feeling the Church will not approve this matter.

This is the most incredible, riveting video I can remember seeing. Each one of the three segments is approx. 12 min long but well worth it. Whether or not you believe, you have to admit that it is captivating.
