Bret,
As always, your thoughts are good.
However, the online What's Happening with Conservatives and the Tea
Party newsletter is reporting on the political situation as it exists
today. It is not meant as a prediction for November. In fact, the
newsletter states:
Of course, there are many factors that could significantly affect the
political landscape between now and the November 6 election, including
the two parties' conventions, the selection of Romney's vice
presidential running mate, the debates, and issues in Congress.
On the other hand, the economy is in such bad shape, if Obama is still
leading now, it is hard to see how his support could deteriorate further
between now and November. It appears he's weathered the political
fallout from his mishandling of the economy.
So, you're right on target: It will come down to social issues! A
significant shift of liberal Catholics away from Obama would swing the
election to Romney. The bishops seem to be on a mission to defeat Obama
with letters from the Bishop read from the pulpit, sermons denouncing
the President, and bulletin announcements that pull no punches. And the
Catholic media is alive with anti-Obama articles as well.
Even Notre Dame has joined in the civil suit against Obama! That's
equivalent to a mea maximum culpa for inviting him to speak at their
commencement ceremony in 2009 and a signal to liberal Catholics that
it's now "a different ballgame."
I believe it will make a difference with many white liberal Catholics.
It'll be interesting to see if all of this is having an effect on Black
and Hispanic Catholics. I have a feeling the answer is "NO" with
Blacks, but maybe a little with Hispanics.
So, if the Bishops and evangelical Protestant ministers continue their
drumbeats through November, some of the states where Obama has an edge
now will likely give Romney an edge in November. However, I'm concerned
this has not been reflected in the polls already. But it may take
frequent repetition for it to finally get through to the "social
justice" Catholics and Protestants.

Maybe if all the CINOs that are "social justice catholics" will finally
wake up and see the Administration for what it is and what it is doing
and not pull the "D" lever like robots, maybe that will change the
prediction.

If the election were held today, the winner would be.....(and MORE!)
by Art Kelly | 5/24/2012
If the presidential election were held today, the winner of both the
popular vote and Electoral College would be Barack Obama.
The average for eight recent national opinion polls is: Obama 45.5%,
Romney 43.8%, Undecided 10.7%.
In electoral votes, Obama would almost certainly win 18 states, plus the
District of Columbia, for 227 electoral votes, while Romney would very
likely win 21 states with 170 electoral votes.
There are 11 states with 141 electoral votes that were listed as
"toss-ups."
Allocating the toss-up states based on the recent polls results in the
grand totals: Obama 303, Romney 235.
The GOP may hang on to control of the House, based on the average of six
recent polls: Republicans 44.3%, Democrats 43.0%, 12.7% Undecided.
The Susan B. Anthony List, a conservative women's organization headed by
Marjorie Dannenfelser, has produced a powerful new video, Womanhood,
which received prolonged applause when it was viewed at a center-right
coalition meeting.
The latest Gallup Poll found that only 41% of Americans consider
themselves "pro-choice"--a record low.
50% now consider themselves to be "pro-life"--one percentage point shy
of their record high.
However, when people identify with the label "pro-life," they do not
mean they oppose abortion under all circumstances.
