Dear Gathnetters,
It is a lazy warm summer afternoont in Southern Califrnia. As I look
out my study window, I see huge thunder clouds building beyond the
mountains and over the mountains to the east. We have more moisture in
the air than I like but the last few nights have been cool and nice for
sleeping. Ima and I have just had a usual delicious dinner at our
favorite Chinese Resturant and came home to nap. I woke up earlier than
she, so I thought I had better do some of my writing.

The upstairs sunday school room to day was so hot that I couldn't read!
Every time I put my glasses on, the fogged up so that the small print
was invisible to me. Fortunately, my only student today, Paul, was on
his best behaviour and he learned the lessen in record time and so we
let him "excape" class a few minutes early.

Last Saturday, (a week ago) Anne and I were invited by the Monroys, to
a day trip to old Mexico! I have always been afaid of driving in Mexico
because of all the horror stories we hear here in San Diego but Edgar
and his wife took two cars (We paid for the gas and they had more people
than they could have taken in one vehicle) and had a very nice time
driving down through Tiajuana where we had breakfast at a very nice
resturant which I would have never found. We continued down the coast
to Encinada a tourist town about 100 miles down the coast. We poked
around there going to a museum and then started back to Tecate overland.
The coast ride is pretty much like the coast along California but with
lots of "resorts" along the way. The overland route to Tecate was a
paved two lane road but with ony a few signs of habitation except for
some gigantic (in size) wineries and ranches. In Tecate, Edgar stopped
at a huge supermarket (the biggest I have every been in) It was packed
with all kinds of goodies showing that the city is prospering. We have
never gotten in that far as it is several miles from the border. It was
a fun time for all.

Earlier in that week we had a nice but short visit from Kurt and Joni
Glennon. Kurt is the Navy pilot who I always admire as he has made a
number of landings on a carrier something which I can't imagine doing!

Beth came home on the 20th and we were very glad to see her again after
her time helping Jon prepare for the selling of his house in Mo.
Yesterday, Saturday, was big doings here in our Casa de Oro Baptist
church fellowship. A very delightful family of four girls married off
their first daughter. The whole church was invited and we all had a
wonderful time. On the way home, Anne and I found the "Bancroft House"
open for visitors. this is one of the first adobe homes in the spring
valley area and is only open for a few hours a week and we just happened
to stop by at the right time. They have a caretaker there who is an
excellent talker who loves to tell stories about the area and so we
really enjoyed the time there. The spring there still has water flowing
(slowly) inspite of the drought we are in. The neighbor hood about the
old place is pretty bad but I am told that because of the rising cost of
housing here in San Diego area, it has turned around and people are
buying there and fixing it up.

The rest of the time Ima and I have been either shoping, replacing
Anitia and Scotts water heater or just plain killing weeds. You
mechanically minded might be interested in the fact that my walk behind
bushhog has finally been fixed up so that everything works properly but
then I noticed that the 12.5 hp motor was surging constantly. I finally
figured out that the poor old thing needed a new air filter. It was
just gasping for breath. I now works like it should.

Well we plan to go to hear the author, Dr Butterworth tonight at the
Shadow Mountain Summer Bible Conference. Which reminds me that I have
the purchased Chuck Missler's new electronic commentary on the book of
Genesis. From a physical point of view he has done an excellent job
explaining the biblical text of creation in terms of the current
findings of modern physics. It is mind expanding treatment of the early
verses in Gensis with concurent viewgraphs and an extensive set of study
notes in PDF form. (www.khouse.com) the whole thing is about 30 hours
in length taken from Bible studies he does. Chuck knows his physics and
informational sciences and uses these gifts in a most fruitful way in
this series.

One other item not so good. We talked to Judy White in Israel early
this week and uncle Eli is not doing well at all. When we called, he
wasn't eating or drinking and couldn't focus his eyes! Please pray for
that family during these terrible times.

Well, this is getting long, (you might faint as such a long update from
Pilgrim Rest.)
Love to you all
